The Volumetric Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (VMMB) has announced the creation of the first ever Volumetric Mixer Operator Certification Program.
The certification program’s goal is to not only increase professionalism of volumetric mixer operators but to provide proof of industry specific knowledge and competencies in the fields of product knowledge, volumetric mixer safety, machine operations and customer relations.
According to Jerry Gaubert, VMMB Chairman, “This program can also be used to provide volumetric mixer operators a career path, improve customer service skills, as well as improve a company’s image and the image of the entire volumetric mixer industry.”
The Volumetric Mixer Operator Certification Program consists of in-depth and industry specific topics, each of which is presented in a workbook based on a nationally agreed upon standard of knowledge and skills every professional volumetric mixer operator should know. Volumetric Mixer Operator Certification is only achieved through required experience and completion of an examination. The program was developed by the members of VMMB and is administered by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. VMMB represents the manufacturers of volumetric concrete mixers. Founded in 1999, VMMB actively promotes the use of volumetric mixer production of concrete. The bureau also promotes industry standards and certification programs to enhance the profitability and professionalism of the industry. The bureau’s members include Bay-Lynx Manufacturing, Inc., Cemen Tech, Custom-Crete, Elkin Hi-Tech, Inc., ProAll Reimer Mixers, and Zimmerman Industries, Inc. Associate members include ACE Pump Corporation, CTS Cement Manufacturing Corp. and DarCole Products, Inc.
The Volumetric Mixer Operator Certification program consists of 4 in-depth topics. The course content is based on a nationally agreed upon standard of knowledge and skills every professional Volumetric Mixer Operator should know. At the end of each section, there is a short quiz. These are designed to ensure that you have an understanding of the material presented.
The four (4) areas covered in the program are:
• Section I – “Safety”
• Section II – “Concrete Technology”
• Section III – “Volumetric Operation and Maintenance”
• Section IV – “Customer and Company Relations”
Volumetric Mixer Operator Certification (VMOC) qualifications:
• Have 3 months of documented on-the-job experience;
• Complete the VMOC training program; and
• Pass the VMOC exam.
The VMOC exam is closed book and consist of 65 multiple choice questions. One hour and 45 minutes (1:45) is given to take the exam.
The exam must be given by a Proctor. The Proctor must be a company official, certified teacher, professional engineer or a college professor.
Results are mailed two (2) to three (3) weeks from the day/date the exams are received.
